Welcome to my little life + personal style blog!
I am not an expert on fitness, fashion or food by any means. Yet, I'm always striving to be better at all three!
I faced many unexpected challenges during grad school in both the professional and personal sense. I became extremely depressed and my body, style and eating habits fell by the wayside. I wasn't myself in any shape or form. After graduation I was on a mission: to get back the old me. I desperately wanted to love myself again and rediscover my passion for life. My hope is to keep on track and find motivation through this blog. My writing reflects my personal journey and things that work for me.
{FIT}
I find it amusing that I participated in "Girls Athletics" in 7th grade. I sorta ran hurdles and was told to throw shot put. I swam some growing up and I was pretty good at that - except for my inability to dive. I tried gymnastics, but my fear of heights took over when it came to the dreaded rope. My mom enrolled me in soccer... I got hit in the face and have avoided sports that involve balls flying at me ever since. My freshman year of college I became obsessed with working out - weights, the elliptical (never treadmill) and any and all aerobic classes. My obsession soon waned. Now I'm an "adult" and by no means an "athlete." However, I enjoy working out and try to keep fit (TRY being the word). I do a little bit of this and a little bit of that - yoga (specifically Bikram), pilates, Zumba (mainly on my Wii), aerobic DVDs (think Jillian Michaels) and I'm on a never ending quest to truly like running. I also, surprisingly, enjoy health(y) foods - both educating myself and giving them a chance. I attribute this to my love of food and cooking overall.
{FASHION}
I've never really followed fashion trends - I have to thank my beautiful and fashionable mother for that! One of my favorite places as a child was sitting on the floor of my mom's walk-in closet and staring up at amazement at all the pretty colors and fabrics... It was always peaceful and beautiful inside her closet - even when the world seemed unfair, confusing and chaotic. I'm simple. I wear what I like. That's not to say I don't love a good designer label... I have a HUGE wardrobe and I am a firm believer that quality items always come back into fashion (hence why it's sad to say my closet is a tad reminiscent of an episode of Hoarders). I'm picky about what items I have but not the means of obtaining them - sale, thrifted, full price, from my mom's closet... I'm an equal opportunity wannabe fashionista.
{FOODIE}
I. Love. Food. I love learning about food, watching TV shows/channels about food, eating (duh), cooking/baking, watching other people do things with food (that sounds wrong...), talking about food, trying new things, analyzing restaurants/menus/meals... I'm more than a "foodie." I'm a foodaholic. First step is admitting you have a problem, right? Well, it's not a problem I'm ready to kick. While I've always enjoyed eating, and who doesn't, I developed a love for cooking and baking during grad school. I found the act of cooking/baking therapeutic and relied on it as a form of stress relief.
